Following nearly 20 impressive self-released albums over the past 7 years, Hush Hush Records is thrilled to present the official label debut from Pacific Northwest electronic producer WMD titled 'Young Angry Love,' a 10-track showcase of his emotionally-rich cinematic soundscapes that yields the most introspective and intentional release in his extensive catalog.
Michael Erickson is the musician behind WMD, a project that has become synonymous with gorgeous, evocative, widescreen productions. Only 22 years old at the time of this release, his output has already quietly reached prolific status, garnering a devoted online fan base along the way with each offering. Whether it's through his blissful downtempo beats, tranquil ambient passages, emotive post-rock explorations, or celestial 8-bit/chiptune anthems, WMD's music carries a beautiful melodic streak that's as captivating as it is relaxing.
Born and raised in the heart of Washington State in the small city of Cashmere, and currently splitting time between the college city of Bellingham and the lush booming metropolis of Seattle, WMD's music finds a rich influence in the expansive natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. 'Young Angry Love' follows in this tradition, yet the album found much of its inspiration in the foggy beaches of southern Washington and northern Oregon. Isolating himself in reclusive spots and small coastal towns such as Cape Disappointment, Astoria, Rockaway Beach, and Capetown, the album began to take shape during a particularly dark and depressive period. These recording sessions became an escape from the turmoil, confusion, and alienation of being a young adult in our fast-paced, instant-gratification landscape, with WMD finding solace in capturing the idyllic surroundings and slow pace of his childhood years in Cashmere through his own music. Slowly and steadily the album began to take shape, with WMD and Hush Hush working closely together through countless demos to stitch together a powerful and cohesive sonic narrative.
Nearly a year after its original inception, the album has been carefully pared down to 10 evocative pieces that feature WMD's most contemplative, hypnotic, and ambient-leaning material to date. It is with honor that 'Young Angry Love' has found a home on our independent Pacific Northwest label, and we're proud to present WMD's official label debut on digital platforms and cassette tape come June 7th, 2019.

This is the first ambient album that brought me to tears. Maybe it was reading the premise that made me realize how weary I feel sometimes, but the music is just a different level of beauty. Steven Moses
