Lost Tribe Sound
Incredible attention to detail in every aspect of the production, and a highly developed sense of how to create ear catching melodies. Cock and Swan really could be making top 40 music, but I'm glad they keep their ever-morphing indie electronic rooted firmly in the off-kiltered underground.
Favorite track: You Are My Dream.
Hush Hush Records is proud to announce the return of beloved Seattle duo Cock & Swan and their new studio album 'Dream Alone,' due out on November 3rd.
The collaborative work of longtime partners Johnny Goss and Ola Hungerford, Cock & Swan have confidently established an enveloping aesthetic over the past decade with a rich catalog of studio albums, EPs, remix collections, and live soundtracks. Each release has showcased their rewarding evolution through adventurous, intricate, vocal-laced synth-pop; their sound always distinguished with an absorbing experimental touch. Consummate studio tinkerers, Cock & Swan recently relocated and upgraded their ever-expanding home studio, Dandelion Gold. Their sound palette has consequently grown to include more vivid colors and added articulation, balancing a brighter sheen with deeper darkness. It’s a sound that exists firmly in it’s own hypnogogic world, at once satisfying and unsettling, and it’s perfectly captured on their magnetic new album, 'Dream Alone.'
Four years have passed since the release of 'Secret Angles,' Cock & Swan’s breakout 3rd studio album and debut on Hush Hush, yet the enigmatic duo have stayed active and busy, recording established and emerging bands in their home studio and immersing themselves in elaborate multi-media projects. Their knack for crafting a lush and evocative sound led to commissions of two original full-length dance scores for renowned Seattle choreographer Kate Wallich (Splurge Land, Industrial Ballet) as well as the creation of an original live soundtrack to Nicolas Winding Refn’s film 'Only God Forgives' as part of the Northwest Film Forum’s Puget Soundtrack series. Their re-score to the latter – an atmospheric, violent, and deeply polarizing film – served as the catalyst to 'Dream Alone,' the album’s 9 tracks culled from the soundtrack’s sprawling 27-song set.
Originally performed live at the Northwest Film Forum in the summer of 2015, their re-imagined soundtrack to 'Only God Forgives' weaves together dynamic new studio songs alongside older previously-released songs that have been re-contextualized to fit the cinematic narrative. These re-worked versions add a refreshing perspective that allows each song to sound brand new. The success of the live performance and a desire to document this unique creative burst motivated Cock & Swan to meticulously re-record the songs in their home studio. The long-awaited studio results now finalized, Hush Hush is proud to present a handpicked selection from the sessions in the form of 'Dream Alone,' a thoroughly complex, uneasy, cerebral, and hypnotic 9-song album that provides a stunning new entry into their illustrious discography. The album is also just a taste of the complete soundtrack, re-titled as 'Julian’s Sword' and set to be self-released on the band’s Dandelion Gold label in December 2017.
